What are the odds of transmission if an HIV-negative person has sex or shares needles with an HIV-positive person?
ANSWER:
The odds of transmission varies by infection route and by many factors present at the time of exposure, including genetics, presence of STIs, and where the HIV-positive person is in course of their infection (a higher viral load is thought to increase odds of transmission).
